Construction work on the road started in October 2015 and is planned to be completed in October 2018. Construction work is concentrated during the dry season. During the rainy season heavy equipment cannot move on local roads, but instead granular materials are transported to the site by barge and stockpiled ready for the dry season.
Upgrading of the Road Research Laboratory started in 2016, and four contracts for equipment supply have been awarded. It is planned to issue bids for construction of the new building end of 2017, but this will not be financed by ADB.
